Expectation

Spoke to a friend who is currently based in Australia. He works for the government in the energy sector. Between the fee who are defined 'successful' within our group of friends - owns 2 car, a plot of land, which he is going to build a house on. When we were talking, I felt some tension in his voice, and asked if everything was alright. That was when he said that things weren't going great at work. People were slow, management ineffective, etc. (Aussie style?) He has expressed his grievance to his manager twice already, but things still remain the same. Apparently it is very political. It came to a state where the project team he is current working for, is boycotting the current project that's been assigned to them by the company.

 

Got me thinking for a while - Hmm, basically he has pretty much everything right. A good paying job, 2 cards, a plot of land. Materialistically, he's sort of there. All he has to do is play along with the culture. But he can't and he's not content? While we have this luxury, there are people out there who struggle just to live through the day. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have expectations, but rather to manage our own expectations. We can have everything we want in this world and still feel empty, yet the man who sweeps the streets goes home to his family everyday with a smile in his face. Odd isn't it? It's about self fulfillment. You can expect wealth to come knocking on your door, only when you are fulfilled.

 

Live by the moments when you were most happy, every day. The pain and sleepless nights will fade away.
